The BPTrakr Blood Pressure Category Chart

The BPTrakr Blood Pressure Category Chart, shown below, is located on the Blood Pressure Reading screen of the app, and is also displayed as an available option on the BPTrakr Report.

The BPTrakr Blood Pressure Category Chart was created based on data contained in the following two documents by the American Heart Association:

Note: Only a medical professional can confirm a blood pressure related diagnosis.

Blood Pressure Classifications of the American Heart Association (AHA) compared to other organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO)

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), normal adult blood pressure is defined as a blood pressure of 120 mmHg when the heart beats (systolic) and a blood pressure of 80 mmHg when the heart relaxes (diastolic). When systolic blood pressure is equal to or above 140 mmHg and/or a diastolic blood pressure equal to or above 90 mmHg the blood pressure is considered to be raised or high.

To encourage early intervention to prevent complications from heart disease, the American Heart Association (AHA) recommends lower thresholds for identifying elevated blood pressure and hypertension.  Other organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) allow for a slightly higher range for elevated categories of blood pressure before categorizing blood pressure as hypertension.
